TDI Colchester

TDI Colchester 2008: July 7-11

The fourth annual Chittenden County Talent Development Institute will take place July 7-11, 2008 at the Green Mountain Center for Gifted Education space at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester. Participants will experience challenging learning opportunities with dynamic faculty and stimulating peers. Students entering grades 1-8 will be involved in week-long strands (classes), which are assigned based on choices indicated on the application form.

NEW THIS YEAR: All children, even the younger ones, will be meeting this year from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. In addition, there will be an optional After Care program (with additional fee) from 3:30-4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. We hope that this accommodation to parents’ work days is helpful. Half days are still a possibility; please discuss this with Lucy Bogue at lucybogue@yahoo.com. Parents, please plan on attending our performances/exhibits at 2:00 PM on Friday.

Parents will once again have the opportunity to attend free drop-in information sessions with Dr. Carol M. Story and Lucy Gage Bogue, MA, probably on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. More information on this will be available in late spring.

The Program

Colchester TDI begins each day with check-in and a brief opening session for everyone at 8:00 AM. The first strands start at 8:15 AM, then snack (which we provide) at 9:45 AM, followed by the second set of strands at 10:00 AM. Students need to bring their own lunch and we will all eat and have play time together between 11:30 AM and 12:15 PM. Then there are two more strands, one at 12:15 PM and one at 2:00 PM. Final dismissal will be at 3:30 PM. For an extra fee of $30 for the week, children may stay an extra hour in our new After Care program, until 4:30 PM (Monday through Thursday), and participate in structured play activities.

NEW THIS YEAR!!

The strands run from Monday through Friday, with slightly shortened strands on Friday, so that there is time for a special performance and exhibition on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM, to which parents are invited. This later performance and exhibit time will hopefully make Friday a little easier for working parents than it has been. The week ends for all at 3:30 PM on Friday.

The Location

TDI-Chittenden County is located at the space of the Green Mountain Center for Gifted Education at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester, easy access off of I-89 at Exit 15. Go east on Rt 15 past St. Michael’s College (on the left) and past Fanny Allen medical complex (on the right), about one mile.

Take a left into the main entrance of the Fort, take your third right onto Hegeman, go into the third big parking lot on the right, immediately in front of the sign that says SMC 1415 Auto and Grounds Special Service Shops. Once you are heading into the parking lot, our building, which is labeled "Dupont Hall," will be ahead and slightly to your right. You can enter through the back doors, take a left, go through double doors on your right, then go up main stair case. Go right at the top of the stairs, then left, and the program space is #302, the last room on the right.

The Faculty

The Talent Development Institute is staffed by highly experienced Vermont educators, many with master’s degrees in the education of the gifted, and by Institute alumni, gifted learners themselves. Short biographies of each instructor can be found here. Classes have low student to teacher ratio, averaging 10 to 12 students.
